R2G Regulations

1. Roles of R2Gs

1.1 Serve as a role model for other tour guides

1.2 Promote the conservation of the natural environment and the cultural heritage of geopark communities

1.3 Share and convey earth science knowledge

1.4 Promote sustainable development and the concept of UNESCO Global Geoparks

2. Codes and Requirements of R2Gs

2.1 Protect the geo-diversity, biodiversity and the cultural heritage of Hong Kong

2.2 Popularise the knowledge of earth science, ecology and cultural heritage

2.3 Support and promote the concepts and principles of UNESCO Global Geoparks

2.4 Be aware of the latest information and requirements of the UNESCO Global Geoparks

2.5 Actively participate in training to continually improve oneself

2.6 Be eager to learn and willing to share knowledge and experience

2.7 Provide high-quality guide service

2.8 Understand and support the R2G system, maintain the overall image and reputation of R2Gs

2.9 Support reasonable, open and fair charges, and avoid unhealthy competition among R2Gs

2.10 Maintain the R2G team spirit and support each other

2.11 Wear the R2G name badge when providing guide service

2.12 Ensure visitor safety

2.13 Fill out the log record in the R2G Portal (except for approved R2G tours)

2.14 Follow the rules and regulations of the R2G system

2.15 Maintain close contact with the R2G Secretariat

2.16 Use the "Hong Kong Global Geopark Handbook for Geopark Guides" and information on the Hong Kong Geopark website as reference materials

3. R2G Behaviour Warranting a Warning or Disqualification

3.1 Opposition to the concept, mission and principle of UNESCO Global Geoparks

3.2 Exhibiting unethical behaviour or poor personal conduct

3.3 Criminal conviction

3.4 Failure to pass the six-month probation period or the triennial reassessment

3.5 Failure to comply with the R2G codes and requirements (please refer to section 2 above)

3.6 Damaging the reputation of R2G or Hong Kong Geopark

Warning/disqualification decisions are subject to the criteria and discretion of the R2G Assessment Panel. Candidates with substantial evidence may make an appeal by email to the R2G Secretariat (geoparkguide@afcd.gov.hk).
